New year, New me!

So its half-way through the month of January and I’ve finally decided my Goals for the year! I capitalized goals because I don't want them to become a “resolution”. Reason being, I don’t want to fall short this year and I always feel like a resolution usually starts out pretty strong and then falls short before the end of the year. This year, I created a short list of mini and larger goals that I think I can really accomplish and want to share them with you so I feel accountable to complete them. Also, I am hoping this post will help inspire some of YOU to complete your goals for 2019. This post is chock-full of ideas, recipes and inspirations (I hope haha) so grab your reading glasses and get ready!

Okay, lets start of with my goals. I’ve categorized my goals into numbers, in the order of hopeful accomplishment.

First things first, I’m gong to be focusing on my mental health. This is a big one and I will be working on this all year long, as I hope most of you will be too! Life has been getting the best of me, so this year I want to focus on making sure my mind and my emotions are in alliance. What I mean by that, is just making sure that what I am feeling, I am actually letting myself feel. So if I am feeling sad, I’ll give myself a moment to walk myself through why I am feeling this way so I can get over it, instead of bottling it up inside and pretending I am not feeling a certain way. I feel like most of us get caught up in life that we don’t actually allow ourselves the time we need to heal or vent, so I encourage all of you to do the same thing. Just walk yourself through your emotions and at the end of the day, I bet you’ll feel so much better!

Secondly, this one goes hand-in-hand with my last goal, fitness. As most of you know, Chris and I have been going to the gym pretty regularly for the past several years. But this year, I am not going to focus on trying to “look” a certain way, instead I am going to use exercise as my “therapy”. Since the Boston Bombing of 2013 I’ve told myself I wanted to run a marathon (I’ve been a runner since I was a teen, but never competitive, just for fun) so this year, I am going to run a Marathon! Yes, you read that right! The second to last weekend in September, Rochester is doing their annual Marathon and I’ve convinced myself that this is the year I will compete!

Third, better eating habits. Chris and I started meal prepping at the beginning of our weeks for breakfast, lunch and dinner last spring. Originally, we started doing this so we could spend more time at the gym during the week and less time cooking or trying to figure out what to cook for dinner each night. This has helped manage our time Monday-Friday but I was getting super bored of my meals and found myself “snacking” on way more sugary-filled foods, so this year I am going to try and not eat as much sugar. We all say this but then never actually follow through with it. SO I am not saying that I am cutting out sugar completely, I wouldn’t be able to, i’d go through withdrawals haha, just cutting back some.

And lastly, I am hoping to pursue my entrepreneurial side. I don’t want to say too much at this moment, but I have some stuff that I am working on and hope to make some achievements this year. More to come later this year!

Since this post is all about finding the better “US” in 2019, I thought I’d share with you a company that I just recently started obsessing over; Athelta. Athleta has been around for a while, but I’ve never paid any mind to my gym clothes cause I didn’t think it mattered that much. I always threw on some random leggings and a baggy t-shirt and then headed off on my way to the gym. But something I’ve always known and just started implementing at the gym is, when we look good, we feel good and we do good! I learned this saying when I was younger and always felt this way with my everyday dress, but like I said earlier, never really carried it over to athletic wear. Now that I have a big goal for 2019, I thought I’d spend a little time finding something that made me want to work harder at the gym, and here I’ve found it.

This little number is so comfy and perfect to get me going! The pretty blue floral print isn’t too distracting but adds a little spice to a very mundane outfit. I love how flexible everything is so it doesn’t stand in my way of moving or bending. When I’m not running, like lifting weights, yoga and pilates, so I need athletic wear that will move just as easily as I can and this outfit is perfect! The sweater is easy to throw on when I’m cooling down from an intense workout or when I’m grabbing a Matcha Tea after my workout. The leggings are the perfect length not to get caught up in my shoes and the sports bra has a ton of support.

One last thing before i let you go; a recipe for one of my very favorite smoothies! I’ve been making this smoothie for years! Its super easy to make and you only need 3 ingredients. Of course, you can add or supplement items to your liking. In years past, I’ve added protein into the mix to make this more of a meal replacement and used juice instead of Almond Milk to make it less thick. So whatever strikes your fancy, change, mix up or add to this recipe as you see fit!

I hope you all are having a great start to your new year! And may this post bring you some inspiration! I’d love to hear your new years goals!

Xo,

Sarah
